Planimetric Correction of the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) in the Northwest Territories

Related activity within the GSDNR Program

The accuracy of digital topographic data in the NTDB at the 1:50 000 scale varies from one area of the country to the next. The planimetric correction activity aims at enhancing data accuracy to 30 m or better using accurate Landsat7 orthoimages.

Consequently, all NTDB data and their derivative products are becoming more accurate. The focus is on elevation data and updated topographic data.

The sectors to be corrected are selected based on the current accuracy of NTDB data, priorities indicated by our customers and partners, and the availability of satellite orthoimages.

The corrected digital files will be available starting in March 2004 on the CTI Web site. Customers who already have NTDB data can geometrically correct their data with correction matrices (provided at no charge). These matrices will gradually be made available on same Web site starting in December 2003.

The objective for fiscal year 2005-2006 is to improve the accuracy of 1800 datasets over the Canadian landmass.
