Topolan7 Activity in the North

The Topolan7 production team has the responsibility of updating Digital Topographic Data (DTD) at the 1:50 000 scale. The data are being updated with current, accurate Landsat7 satellite imagery (between 12 m and 20 m). The areas updated are selected based on the priorities identified by our customers and partners and depend on the availability of the following information:

  • Accurate satellite imagery ;
  • National Topographic Data Base (NTBD) data sets.

During the first production year (2002-2003), approximately 100 data sets were updated in the Nunavut and Northwest Territories areas. The target for 2003-2004 is 250 data sets. In addition, toponyms in most of the files will also be updated. Visit our Web site regularly to learn about the release date for updated data sets.

The Topolan work is being outsourced to the Canadian geomatics industry. The resulting information is then validated by the Topolan7 team of the Geomatics for Northern Development Program.
