Jobs open to the public

All recruitment is performed by the Public Service Commission (PSC) on behalf of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).

Except when submitting your résumé into a specific inventory database, the PSC only accepts résumés for advertised positions. The PSC does not accept résumés submitted for consideration only.

If you have identified a position for which you wish to apply, there are three acceptable ways for submitting your résumé. You can either:

  1. apply online (preferred and recommended)
  2. apply by fax
  3. apply by regular mail service

How to apply online
When applying online, the PSC does not accept email attachments because of the risk of virus infection and because this method requires extensive manual processing.

Once you have identified a position for which you are qualified and wish to apply for, select the "apply on line" option, complete the form and click on the "mail my application" button.

How to apply by fax
Once you have identified a position for which you are qualified and wish to apply for, prepare your résumé and fax it to the PSC at the number specified on the PSC site. Don't forget to quote the title and reference number of the position for which you are applying. You must clearly indicate your citizenship and demonstrate that you meet all of the required criteria.

How to apply by regular mail
Once you have identified a position for which you are qualified and wish to apply for, prepare your résumé and mail it to the PSC at the address specified on the PSC site. Don't forget to quote the title and reference number of the position for which you are applying. You must clearly indicate your citizenship and demonstrate that you meet all of the required criteria.

Inventory databases

In order to decrease recruitment time and costs for positions that are most common, and generic to departments, the Public Service Commission (PSC) maintains inventories of candidates rather than advertising for each individual job.

At any given time, depending on demand, the PSC may open an inventory for a certain type of work. It is important to visit the jobs.gc.ca recruitment site on a regular basis if you are seeking employment with the federal Public Service. Inventories for other types of jobs could open and close at any time and at the discretion of the PSC.

The PSC is presently accepting applications for the following inventories.

CLERICAL INVENTORY

In order to decrease recruitment time and costs for positions that are common and generic to several departments, the PSC maintains inventories of candidates who could be considered for clerical type positions. This streamlines the need to advertise individual jobs.

For specific information regarding the requirements of various types of jobs, please visit the Jobs open to the Public Web site.

There are 3 ways to submit your résumé into the Clerical Inventory:

  1. Online
  2. Fax
  3. Regular Mail

SECRETARIAL INVENTORY

The Public Service Commission (PSC) is currently recruiting candidates for inclusion in the inventory of Secretaries in anticipation of vacancies in various federal government departments.

For specific information regarding the requirements of various types of jobs, please visit the Jobs open to the Public Web site.

There are 3 ways to submit your résumé into the Bilingual Secretarial Inventory:

  1. Online
  2. Fax
  3. Regular Mail

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INVENTORY

The IT Recruitment Database is an electronic inventory of IT candidates and is designed to provide managers with a means of recruiting candidates from outside the Public Service.

The basic requirement for entry into the database is successful completion of a two-year post-secondary training program in computer science or information technology from a recognized institute.

Jobs open to the Public Web site

Please note that your résumé will remain active in the inventory for a period of 62 days. After this time you must fill out a new application form to keep your file active.

POST-SECONDARY RECRUITMENT PROGRAM INVENTORY

The Post-Secondary Recruitment Program seeks university graduates who have the qualifications needed to fill entry-level positions in federal government departments.

The Public Service Commission has in place an inventory of recent university graduates or persons who will obtain their university degree by December 31, 2003.

This inventory is available to all federal government departments, across Canada, to fill a wide range of officer level positions which require a university degree.

Post-Secondary Recruitment Program

Please note that your application will be retained for a period of sixty days. Candidates who wish to remain in the inventory, must, before the end of each sixty-day period, log into the system to indicate continued interest and availability.
