Minimum Education
Standard:
Graduation from a recognized university with specialization in mathematics,
statistics or operational research or with specialization in one
of the physical, life or social sciences combined with an acceptable
number of courses (normally 10 full courses/approximately 60 credits)
in mathematics, statistics or operational research at the university
level.
Mathematician
Mathematicians at NRCan may be required to:
- Direct, coordinate
and manage the design, development and implementation of surveys of
the Canadian natural resources industries; provide authoritative mathematical
and statistical expertise for survey design; identify statistical and
mathematical needs and priorities for surveys; represent the Department
on committees
- Negotiate and coordinate
working arrangements and joint survey agreements with federal and other
governments and natural resources industries
- Advise colleagues
on the quality and interpretation of data and on survey conduct, design
and analyses
- Initiate, plan
and direct an applied research program on advanced statistical design
and methodology for surveys; maintain a thorough knowledge of advanced
mathematics and statistics related to surveys; review trends in the
natural resources industries relevant to survey needs
- Coordinate economical,
statistical and mathematical analyses of survey data; produce reports
and technical articles; review and edit articles of colleagues
- Manage the human,
financial and technical resources allocated to the program to meet organizational
objectives; counsel and evaluate staff.
