R-2000: Peace of Mind

When you decide to buy a new home, you want the peace of mind that comes from dealing with a professional new home builder and being confident that your new home will meet your expectations.

An R-2000 home gives you that peace of mind, with features such as:

Certified builders. R-2000 homes are available only from professional new home builders who have been trained in R-2000 building science and construction practices. Only licensed R-2000 home builders can build certified R-2000 homes.

Up-to-date training. After receiving their licence, R-2000 home builders are required to attend regular technical update sessions to stay informed about the latest developments in home construction and technology.

Quality assurance. Every R-2000 home is subjected to the most rigorous quality assurance in the industry – well beyond what the National Building Code of Canada requires.

Computer analysis. Every R-2000 home is subject to computer analysis to verify that the design meets the R-2000 performance target.

Extra inspections. Every R-2000 home receives extra inspections to ensure that the home conforms to the R-2000 Standard. These inspections are in addition to the regular building inspections performed by the municipality.

Ventilation testing. The technicians who install the ventilation system in every R-2000 home must be specially trained and licensed to work on R-2000 homes. Once installed, every ventilation system is tested independently to make sure it works properly.

Air leakage testing. Upon completion, every R-2000 home gets a computerized air leakage test carried out by an independent technician. This verifies that the construction of the home performs to the stringent airtightness requirements of the R-2000 Standard. Any problems are identified and rectified by the builder before the house is certified.

Government certification. Once the home is completed and has passed all the required tests and inspections, R-2000 home builders apply for certification of the new home. R-2000 homes are certified by the Government of Canada.

No imitations. If a home isn't certified, it isn't R-2000. There's no such thing as an "almost R-2000 home" or an "R-2000 home without the paperwork." It's that simple.
