National Capital Commission
Canada

Gatineau Park is a prime destination in the Capital region, with over 1.7 million visits a year. As well as contributing to fulfilling the NCC mandate by offering Canadians a chance to experience nature in the Capital, this level of activity contributes more than $25 million to the Capital region’s economy.

Recreation in the Park is managed according to recognized principles for natural parks and environmentally friendly activities are offered for the visitors to enjoy. Under the Gatineau Park Master Plan, different uses (recreational, wilderness, visitor services, etc.) have been encouraged in different sectors of the Park. Services are like those provided in similar parks, and they support the NCC’s concept of a Green Capital, a place where our great canadian nature can be experienced in both an urban and rural context.

Regulations

Regulations protect Park users, the quality of the visitor experience and the natural resources of the Park itself. Among these are the recycling program and the “Pack In, Pack Out” program: what you take into the Park, you must take out.
