National Capital Commission
Canada

To improve user safety on the Capital Pathway, the NCC is undertaking work, both rehabilitation and new construction, on the Capital Pathway — one of North America’s most extensive recreational pathway networks. These projects will improve pathway conditions for the 500,000 residents and visitors in Canada’s Capital Region who use this 170-kilometre network each year. In 2004, the NCC, in partnership with the City of Ottawa and the Ville de Gatineau, implemented a 10-point action plan to help users stay safe on the Capital Pathway.

Some of the work to be undertaken includes:

  • excavation for new pathway alignments
  • pathway widening to the 3-metre multi-use standard
  • new asphalt surfacing
  • landscaping activities
  • construction of new links to ensure the network’s continuity

Some of the pathway projects may require temporary closures. Signage will be put in place to advise users. The NCC wishes to thank users for their patience during these pathway improvement periods.
