In collaboration with the NCC, the City of Ottawa will begin the design for the rehabilitation of Sussex Drive between George Street and St. Patrick Street. The project will:
- replace the existing combined sewer with separate storm and sanitary sewers
- replace the water main which is over 100 years old
- install a new pavement structure, curbs, sidewalks and street lighting
The NCC’s involvement in this project is related to the Confederation Boulevard streetscape improvements. Sussex Drive is part of Confederation Boulevard, Canada’s Capital Region’s ceremonial and discovery route. In conjunction with the above works, this segment of Sussex Drive will be upgraded to Boulevard standards in terms of sidewalks, granite curbs, boulevards and street lighting. It will also integrate the existing, distinctive ByWard Market heritage street lamps.
Issues related to construction, as well as traffic and pedestrian management, will be identified during the planning phase of the project. These issues will be mitigated through construction staging and other options. Interested parties are encouraged to attend public meetings scheduled for February 2006. For more information regarding this project, visit the City of Ottawa website.
