The NCC has begun work at the Moorside Cottage, located at Mackenzie King Estate, the most significant historical site in Gatineau Park. The construction work will improve services for users, as well as protect the Moorside Cottage.
The project involves the renovation of the restaurant kitchen and washrooms. Work will also include improvements to the fire protection system and the potable water system, in order to meet the current provincial standards for public buildings.
This construction work, which has been carefully planned in accordance with the heritage significance of the Mackenzie King Estate’s historical buildings, is expected to be completed before the buildings reopen for the next season in May 2007.
Because the work requires excavation through bedrock, noise can be expected. The work will be undertaken during normal working hours (Monday to Friday, 7 am to 7 pm, and on weekends only if required), and will be kept at an acceptable level in accordance with municipal standards. Increased truck traffic can also be expected.
The grounds will remain accessible to the public at all times.
Every effort will be made to minimize the impact of the work on the community and on users of the Mackenzie King Estate.
