Westport Demo Details

Summary:
The overall objective for the Heavy-Duty Truck "Clean Air Corridor" Demonstration with LNG and Westport-Cycle Technology is to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of operating heavy-duty (Class 8) trucks in a line-haul application using liquefied natural gas as the primary fuel with the Westport-Cycle HPDI fuel system. Five new trucks will be equipped with Westport-Cycle fuel systems and run for a period of one year in southern Ontario. The participating fleet is Challenger Motor Freight of Cambridge, Ontario. Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. is the fuel provider. These trucks will refuel at a refueling station that will be located at Challenger's facility in London, Ontario.

WestportThis link opens a new window. will work with a consortium including Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. to deploy trucks using 15-liter, heavy-duty engines operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) along Highway 401 between Toronto and Windsor, Ontario. Funding for the two-year "Clean Air Corridor" project is provided by Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).

SDTC, a not-for-profit, arms length organization created by the Government of Canada, will provide $1 million (US$740,000) for the Clean Air Corridor demonstration. NRCan is contributing a further $400,000 (US$296,000) towards the project that will determine the performance and emissions reductions of trucks using proprietary Westport-CycleTM technology in regular on-highway operation.
