Peggy Nash
Biography
- Elected the Member of Parliament for Parkdale – High Park in 2006
- Represented Canada in the first post-apartheid elections in South Africa in 1994 and during the 2004 Ukrainian election; participated in the parliamentary fact-finding mission to Lebanon in 2006
- Was the first female union representative responsible for major auto negotiations in North America
- Has been involved in projects to end violence against women and received a Certificate of Honour from the City of Toronto for her contribution to women’s equality
- She has been involved in such varied efforts as supporting homeless youth, helping ensure refugees gain safe access to Canada, and establishing employer-paid child care for shift workers
- A recipient of two awards from the Sierra Club of Canada, Peggy helped create the NDP Green Car Strategy with Greenpeace and the Canadian Auto Workers
- She and her partner, Carl, have raised three sons
