Canada Wood

In May 2002, Natural Resources Canada announced the five year $35.0 million Canada Wood Export Program (Canada Wood). As a cost-shared program, NRCan will seek partnerships with wood product associations from across Canada and work with provinces and industry partners to diversify Canada’s wood products exports to offshore markets.

The objective of Canada Wood is to expand the offshore export opportunities of Canadian wood products in traditional and emerging markets by supporting industry associations in their efforts to work collaboratively overseas and by developing a Team Canada approach to market development. (Note: domestic and US markets are not eligible).

Working with partners across the country, Canada Wood will explore and expand new market opportunities and seek to brand Canada as a preferred and dependable supplier of quality wood products.

To promote broad participation and capture the diverse market development interests across the sector, a preliminary Canada Wood Export Strategy was developed during 2002 through a participatory process involving industry associations and the federal and provincial governments (available at CanadaWood@nrcan.gc.ca).
