Access to the ETDE's World Energy Base
Access to the ETDE's World Energy Base database will be provided free of charge through the
Energy, Minerals and Metals Information Centre of
Natural Resources Canada.
Policy
Natural Resources Canada has fully supported and sponsored the input of Canadian content to the
database. NRCan through the Energy, Minerals and Metals Information Centre and its affiliates has
added approximately 3400 records a year to the ETDE database in the last ten years. The Canadian public
will be able to access the database through the Internet. The vision for NRCan is that "Canada must
become the world's "smartest" natural resources developer, user and exporter: the most
high-tech; the most environmentally friendly; the most socially responsible; the most productive and
competitive." The creation of a web-based product for global energy-related literature broadens
access to research and development and will allow information sharing between many different communities.
ETDE Web
ETDE's Energy Database contains the world's largest collection of energy literature, with more than
4 million records. Initially, coverage will date from 1995 to the present. The database contains
bibliographic references and abstracts to journal articles, reports, conference papers, books and
theses. The subject include the environmental aspects of energy production and use and energy policy
and planning, as well as the basic sciences that support energy research and development (R&D).
