CANMET Mining and Mineral Sciences Laboratories

THE CHALLENGE

Mining is a global enterprise and many Canadian companies are involved in projects overseas. There has been a demand for Canadian expertise and technology to enhance mining practices and standards in many countries around the world. In addition, Canadian mines often need assistance in adapting equipment and machinery from foreign suppliers to suit the Canadian work environment.

NRCan CAN HELP

CANMET-MMSL conducts research and development into a wide range of methods, processes and technologies involved in mining and transforming ore into a concentrate, mineral product or metal.

CANMET-MMSL's leading-edge expertise and methodologies, developed to address the needs of the Canadian industry, are being used internationally to meet the needs of the industry at large.

CANMET-MMSL's international activities include:

  • Environmental technology transfer to Canadian mining companies with operations overseas, and to foreign governments;
  • Assisting Canadian mines to adapt foreign technologies to suit their operations;
  • The supply of Certified Reference Materials worldwide to mineral analysis laboratories;
  • A Proficiency Testing Program for mineral analysis laboratories.
