CANMET-MMSL scientists have conducted considerable research on the transport and attenuation of contaminants in the northern environment to enable more accurate predictions of potential environmental impacts associated with mining development in the Canadian North.

The findings are useful, not only in selecting the proper schemes to reduce environmental risks and impacts at all stages of a mining project, but also to help devise practical solutions for reclaiming abandoned mine sites.
