Broadband Program Description
The Broadband for Rural and Northern Development Pilot Program is
helping to bring high-capacity Internet to unserved rural, remote and
First Nations communities. Launched on September 5, 2002, this
$105-million pilot Program is key to meeting the Government of Canada’s
commitment to bring broadband technology to all Canadian communities.
The Broadband Pilot Program is being delivered through two rounds of
business plan development funding, followed by two rounds of
implementation funding. The first two rounds of business plan
development funding and the first round of implementation funding are
complete.
Broadband strengthens communities, improving services in areas like
education, health, and business. Canadians are using broadband to create
new products and services and to come up with new ideas about how to do
things better and faster.
