Use caution before pumping a flooded basement

The following advisory is issued by the Department of Public Safety's New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization.

People who have water in their basements as a result of flooding along the Saint John River are advised to wait for water levels to recede before attempting to pump water out of the basement. Premature removal of water from a flooded basement could cause structural damage or collapse the basement.

As a safety precaution, basement water levels should not be more than 30 cm (one foot) lower than the outside water level.
