Gas Fireplaces - Instant Ambience with the Flip of a Switch

Whether you're looking to warm your toes after a long winter walk, help heat your home or add a little romance to your life, a gas fireplace can fit the bill. The technology is simple: simulated logs and a gas burner are enclosed in a firebox with a glass front for viewing the fire. With the flip of a switch, you get instant heat and ambiance. Since the fuel source is natural gas or propane, there's no mess involved - either in starting the fire or in cleaning up afterwards.

Why Go With Gas?

Wood fireplaces were once the norm in Canadian homes - and some great wood-burning technologies are now available. But the increased use of natural gas and propane for home heating has made the move to gas fireplaces easy and attractive. Here are some reasons why homeowners like gas fireplaces:

  • Gas fireplaces are easier to use and less work than traditional wood-burning fireplaces - and can be much more energy-efficient.
  • Gas fireplaces offer the convenience of an on/off switch and an ever-present fuel supply. With a gas fireplace, you don't need to worry about going to bed with burning embers still in the firebox: when the gas supply is shut off, the fire is extinguished immediately.
  • Gas fireplaces eliminate the need for cleaning your hearth and generate no mess inside the home - no ashes, wood chips, bark, smoke or other residue from a wood fire.
  • Direct vent Gas fireplaces are sealed combustion units, which means there is little chance for toxic combustion gases to spill into the home.
  • Propane and natural gas are clean-burning fuels. Compared to wood fireplaces, gas fireplaces vented to the outdoors produce much less carbon monoxide and particulate emissions.
