Canada's Reports on HIV/AIDS
Canada's Report on HIV/AIDS is published annually by the Public Health Agency of Canada to inform the HIV/AIDS community, the Canadian public and parliamentarians of the current realities of HIV/AIDS, of progress that has been made in Canada in responding to the epidemic, and of the challenges that lie ahead. The report is developed by PHAC in collaboration with other federal departments and agencies and non-governmental organizations that receive funding under the Federal Initiative. Federal departments and agencies that invest in HIV/AIDS programming from their own budgets also contribute to the report, which is released each year on December 1, World AIDS Day.
Federal Initiative to Address HIV/AIDS in Canada
The Federal Initiative to Address HIV/AIDS in Canada signals a renewed federal approach to HIV/AIDS in Canada. A partnership of the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Health Canada and Correctional Service Canada, the Federal Initiative is pursuing a vision where Canada is free from HIV and AIDS and the underlying conditions that make Canadians vulnerable to the epidemic, and where people, not systems, are the centre of the federal response.
Leading Together: Canada Takes Action on HIV/AIDS (2005-2010)
Developed collaboratively by a spectrum of stakeholders involved in the Canadian response to HIV/AIDS, Leading Together marks a turning point in the collective response to HIV/AIDS. A blueprint for action, Leading Together sets out an ambitious coordinated national approach to tackling the epidemic on all fronts. It reflects the best of the wisdom, experience and practices in place now, while presenting a collective view of what specifically needs to happen in the future, so that “the end of the epidemic is in sight.” The Government of Canada encourages the use of Leading Together by all participants in Canada's response to HIV/AIDS.
The Canadian HIV Vaccines Plan: Towards a World Without AIDS
This document is the result of a collaborative process involving researchers, government and the community. Canada has the expertise, experience and resources to make a significant contribution to the global effort to develop HIV vaccines and deliver them to all people who need them, including Canadians. The Canadian HIV Vaccines Plan outlines Canada's contributions to this effort and articulates the vision for Canada's involvement throughout.
A National Portrait: A Report on Governments' Responses to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Canada
In 2006, the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Advisory Committee on AIDS released A National Portrait: A Report on Governments' Responses to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Canada. Governments across Canada – federal, provincial, and territorial – are addressing the current HIV/AIDS epidemic. The report examines the situation of the epidemic in different Canadian jurisdictions from the perspective of provincial and territorial governments and key stakeholders; summarizes the different policy and programming responses to the epidemic; analyses issues of common concern; and identifies means for strengthening the Canadian response to the epidemic.
The United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on HIV/AIDS Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS
Since the creation of the Declaration in 2001, the Government of Canada has submitted reports to the Secretary General of the United Nations detailing Canada's progress in meeting the UNGASS Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS. These documents are used by UNAIDS to report on the global HIV/AIDS epidemic.
