CANMET Mining and Mineral Sciences Laboratories Scientist Named Adjunct Professor at McGill University

In November 2001, Dr. Marc Bétournay, Senior Scientist, CANMET-MMSL, was appointed Adjunct Professor for the Mining and Metallurgical Engineering Department at McGill University. As an Adjunct Professor, Dr. Bétournay will act as external examiner in post-graduate studies and will teach several courses in the field of geomechanics. This appointment will strengthen the links between Natural Resources Canada and the academic community, increasing mutual awareness of ongoing research and development, and potentially provide young graduates with opportunities for collaborative post-graduate studies.

CANMET Mining and Mineral Sciences Laboratories Principal Scientist Named Adjunct Professor at Carleton University

In September 2002, Dr. John Udd, Principal Scientist - Mining, with the CANMET Mining and Mineral Science Laboratories of Natural Resources Canada, accepted a three-year appointment as Adjunct Professor in Carleton University's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. This appointment was in recognition of Dr. Udd's contribution during the past two years to a project on the design of an Automated Mining Vehicle. In this capacity, he has provided lectures and presentations on the mining industry, mine design, and the world of "inner space."

McGill University Professor Takes One-Year Sabbatical to Conduct Research at Natural Resources Canada on Advanced Steels for Automotive Applications

In September 2002, Professor Jim Nemes from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at McGill University started a one-year sabbatical at the CANMET Materials Technology Laboratory of Natural Resources Canada to work on modelling of mechanical properties of advanced steels for automotive applications.
