Canada reduces debt burden to lowest level in quarter century

The Government has reduced its debt to CAD 481.5 billion from its peak of CAD 562.9 billion in 1996-97. Canada's net debt burden is the lowest in the G7 and is well below the average of OECD countries. .. more

Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty released "Advantage Canada: Building a Strong Economy for Canadians", a long-term, national economic plan designed to make Canada a true world economic leader. The plan, unveiled along with the "Economic and Fiscal Update", features a new national objective to eliminate Canada's total government net debt in less than a generation and further reduces taxes for all Canadians. .. more
