Bootleg Alcohol Seized

Sherbrooke, Tuesday, October 24, 2006 - Last Friday evening, Estrie Detachment Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers intercepted a pickup truck that had entered Canada illegally. The officers conducted a summary search of the vehicle and seized 558 1.75-litre bottles of alcohol and 88 five-litre boxes of wine (vinier). A 37-year-old man from the Montreal area was arrested and will be summoned to appear in court in a near future.

It should be noted that all vehicles entering Canada through a secondary road must report to a customs post without delay.

The RCMP wishes to remind the public that the smuggling and illegal distribution and/or production of controlled or prohibited products impact negatively on the Canadian economy and society. These unlawful activities must be curtailed in order to keep our borders secure. All tips received from the general public help law enforcement authorities in the fight against this form of crime.
