  • To stop illegal activity and to protect Canadians from threats to their health, safety, and security by investing in innovative solutions that will help our clients be competitive and make our communities safer
  • Protecting Canadians and Canadian society, by impeding the flow of inadmissible people and dangerous or illegal goods across our borders

Key Public Safety Activities

  1. Canada Customs Act
    • Protect Canadians by stopping illegal activity and protecting our citizens from threats to their health, safety and security
  2. Wait times on entry into Canada
    • To identify periods where Wait Times may lead to ministerial involvement and media attention
    • To systematically report the average Wait Times at our borders and the percentage of individuals subject to waits beyond the goals
  3. Investigations Programs
    • The CCRA operates three investigative programs to deal with suspected cases of tax or duty evasion, smuggling, and other tax and customs offences.
    • Canada's tax and customs systems are based on self-assessment. The CCRA's enforcement activities help preserve public confidence in the fairness and integrity of those systems.
    • Our investigative programs reflect the CCRA's mandate to use responsible enforcement to promote awareness of and compliance with the laws we administer.
