Internet Privacy Policy

Internet privacy is of the utmost importance to us. Please read this section carefully, as well as the section on Intellectual property rights to the gouvernement du Québec.


Protection of your identity

When you visit our site:

  • No cookies are placed in your Web browser files. Session cookies are used sparingly to facilitate navigation but not to collect personal information.

  • No personal information is collected without your consent. The information transmitted automatically between computers cannot be used to identify you. Certain information is collected to satisfy Web technological requirements and is used for statistical purposes, such as recording the number of visitors to the site and determining which pages are consulted most frequently, etc.

  • We offer secure electronic services which use an encryption protocol to guarantee the confidentiality of the personal information exchanged.

Information transmitted automatically

As soon as you access our website, information is automatically exchanged between your computer and our Web hosting server. The information does not identify you personally.

The following information is then exchanged:

  • Your Internet domain name (for example, « company.com », if you use a private Internet access account, or « university.edu » if you obtain access via a university);

  • Your IP address (a unique number assigned to your computer when it is connected to the Internet, which makes it possible to send documents that are intended for you without error);

  • The type of browser and operating system used to access this website;

  • The web pages you access;

  • If you access our website from another website (referring website), the address of that website.

This exchange of information is necessary if the server is to send you a file that is compatible with the computer equipment you are using. We keep the information required to have a record of:

  • the number of visitors;
  • the pages visited most often;
  • the technology used by the portal's clientele;
  • the referring websites;
  • the countries of origin of visitors to the website.

Confidentiality of the personal information exchanged

The personal information sent is not disclosed to any other government agency unless your request is intended for that agency or disclosure is required by law. In no case is the information sent used to draw up a profile of users, or disclosed to a private organization.

If you send us personal information by E-mail

  • For reasons of security, never include personal information, in particular your social insurance number, in a message.

  • We do not respond by e-mail to questions requiring the transmission of personal and confidential information. We will attempt to reach you by telephone to respond to your message or to follow up on your request.

  • E-mail is handled in accordance with the same privacy rules as regular mail. You can count on the discretion of our employees. Any employee who may have access to private information has received training on the confidentiality of personal data and is required to respect your privacy.

We offer you the opportunity to receive a newsletter by e-mail. Rest assured that all information transmitted will only be used by the Ministère de la Sécurité publique du Québec. At any time, you can unsubscribe from our mailing list.

If you use our on-line services

When you use our on-line services, we confirm your identity by asking you for personal information. We need such information in order to:

  • confirm your identity when you contact us;
  • ensure that we have the information needed to access your file in order to process your application or your business transaction;
  • confirm your identity, if the Ministère contacts you in order to answer your request;
  • ensure the confidentiality of your data.

You must provide this information in order to use our on-line services. We will keep the information in accordance with the Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information.

A user code and a password are required to use transactional services giving access to confidential information.

You are responsible for the information that you submit to us and for the confidentiality of your identification data, access code and password. The Ministère de la Sécurité publique cannot be held responsible for unauthorized use of this information. Should the confidentiality of this information be violated, please inform us immediately to avoid fraudulent use of your identity.

Our website provides links to other relevant sites. Provision of a link does not signify that the Ministère de la Sécurité publique approves the content of the link site or of sites accessed through further navigation.

When you click on a link, you leave our site. Any information subsequently exchanged is not subject to our Internet privacy policy.
