Before Arriving at the Airport
  • Do not let family or colleagues tell strangers about your travel plans. This is for the protection of your home and family.
  • Pack your own bags; never let anyone else pack them for you.
  • Label all luggage with your name and business address. Do not label luggage with your home address or your business title. This is for your security.
  • You must bring government-issued photo identification while travelling. You must have a valid passport for international travel. For further information, please consult: http://www.voyage.gc.ca/consular_home-e.htm
  • Make copies of credit cards and photo identification you are bringing with you. Leave one copy with a trusted relative or friend, and keep one in your checked baggage.
  • Syringes and needles for personal use must have the needle guard in place and must also be accompanied by the medication to be used. All prescription medication must be in its original labelled container.
  • Don't wrap gifts until you arrive at your destination. Security personnel may need to inspect them.
  • Ensure that electronic devices in carry-on baggage are operational. Check your batteries before you travel.
  • Passengers may not bring on board an aircraft any knives, sharp and/or pointed objects, and certain sports equipment. For more information, please consult http://www.tc.gc.ca/vigilance/carry_on.htm for examples of prohibited items

At the airport

  • Be aware of security procedures. Call your airline or travel agent, or check web sites for the information you require.
  • Your adherence to requests from airport personnel will help ensure a safe and secure trip.
  • Report any suspicious-looking packages or unattended luggage to airport staff or to police.
  • Carry travel documents, credit cards and money on your person at all times. A money belt is ideal for this.
  • When possible, avoid carrying large amounts of cash or displaying attractive jewellery items. Use credit cards or travellers cheques and call your credit card company to confirm that your card will be honoured in your country of destination.
  • Keep your unchecked luggage with you at all times.
  • You must show government-issued photo ID to personnel at check-in, when boarding and when requested.
  • Do not joke about hijackings or bombings, parti-cularly when going through pre-board screening. It is against the law.
  • Do not carry items on board for anyone you do not know.

Remember, airlines reserve the right to prohibit any item that they consider to be a security risk. Contact your airline for more information.
