If you have been sexually assaulted and you visit an emergency department at the Health Sciences Centre or St. Clare's Mercy Hospital in St. John's, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner will be called.

With your consent, the nurse examiner will ask you questions regarding the incident; collect evidence with your permission; do a physical and pelvic or genital examination to look for injuries and collect specimans; provide you with resources for counselling services; and provide clothing if you need it.

You have several choices:

1. You can be examined carefully and given medical treatment for your injuries. Your risks of pregnancy and contracting a sexual transmitted disease will be evaluated and the nurse will work with the physician to ensure you are treated appropriately.
AND/ OR
2. You can be examined carefully with evidence collected to be frozen up to one year if you don't want to report the sexual assault immediately.
OR
3. You can be examined carefully, with evidence collected for the police. Regardless of your choice, the nurse examiner will respect you and support any decision you make.

The North campus, parking lot 27, the coin operated lot for students and the walkway between MUN Childcare Centre and Burtons Pond. Emergency Push Buttons are also located throughout the university tunnels.
