Background

The Prince Albert Indian and Metis Friendship Centre Inc. provides a family violence program for Prince Albert that Delivers services to Aboriginal families who are victims of family violence and maintaining liaison with other community agencies.

Program Objectives

  • Work with families affected by family violence and all issues contributing to family violence.;
  • Offer services such as information, advocacy, support, referrals and follow-ups;
  • Encourage wellness in families affected by family violence through Healing Circles and promoting a healthier life style for individuals;
  • Develop and facilitate education and awareness workshops when required;
  • Develop communication links with various community agencies and networking with organizations that offer services in the area of family violence.

Services Offered in 2002/2003

  • Co-ordinating traditional counselling activities that promote healthy behavior for individuals, families and groups;
  • Developing case plans and goals with clients;
  • Strengthening links with other agencies; and
  • Informing the community about the services offered through the program.

Program Organization and Management

The program employs a family wellness coordinator, while an Executive Director co-ordinates and supervises the program.

The Board of Directors for the Prince Albert Indian and Metis Friendship Centre Inc. guides and oversees the program. The program works co-operatively with the Prince Albert Grand Council Women's Commission.
