Status of innovation, research and development in Montérégie

- In 2001, $557.8 million was invested in intramural research in Montérégie (14.3% of the Quebec total).
- In 2001, 745 establishments and 4,199 people (including 2,266 professionals) were involved in R&D.
- In 2001, Montérégie generated 16.8% of manufacturing value-added in Quebec (2nd place)
- In terms of dollars invested per capita in 2002, less was spent on R&D ($437/per capita) in   Montérégie than in Quebec as a whole ($538/per capita).
- 53% of enterprises in the region carried out R&D over the past three years.
- The most dynamic industries in Montérégie in terms of R&D are aeronautics (70.6%), biotechnology   (68.4%) and chemicals and rubber products (65.4%).
- Enterprises in the region carry out proportionally slightly less R&D than enterprises in regions close to   Montréal. However, enterprises in the Longueuil region stand out from the group (59.1% for Longueuil,   compared to 56.4% for Laval).
