Regulation respecting special permits 


The Regulation respecting special permits lays out the conditions that must be complied with when a vehicle is oversized because of its manufacture or outsized cargo. There are 7 classes and 2 categories of special permit.

Classes and categories of permits
Menu. 
Class 1 : Non-standard transport in terms of width, height, length, or front or rear overhang
Class 2 : Transport of prefabricated buildings
Class 3 : Transport of swimming pools
Class 4 : Tow trucks
Class 5 : Travel with loaded mass in excess of limits
Class 6 : Travel with loaded mass in excess of limits, requiring an expert's report from the MTQ
Class 7 : Travel with size in excess of limits, requiring an expert's report from the MTQ

General category: classes 1 and 2

  • Authorizes its holder to make trips with or without a specified route for not longer than one year.

Specific category: classes 1 and 2

  • Authorizes its holder to make a return trip with a specified route, for not longer than seven consecutive days.
