In the French version, the English link takes you directly to the corresponding English page. If there is no such page, you will be taken to a page enabling you to return to the previous page, or go to the site map or home page. It should be noted that the content of the English-language version of the site complies with the Politique gouvernementale relative à l’emploi et à la qualité de la langue française dans l’Administration (Québec policy on the use and quality of French in the government). The English version is composed either of content for which an English translation was most often requested or of content that applies to a large number of Anglophones. You can compare the content of the two versions on the Site Map page. In the case of pages for which there is no translation, the French heading is indicated, with a link, in parentheses beside the English heading. If the link is on the English heading, the page exists in English. The menu bar, which appears on all first-level and second-level pages, enables you to go directly to another menu or a submenu element. The Inforoutière menu gives access to information on all subjects of potential interest to road users: traffic Webcams; official road map; road conditions; distances between cities; and traffic impediments caused by road works. The Trucking menu takes you to information on all aspects of trucking in Québec: cargo securement; bulk trucking; vehicle load and size both during the thaw period and the rest of the year; transportation of dangerous substances; special permits; signs banning trucks on certain roads; and the Act respecting owners and operators of heavy vehicles. The Road Network menu combines all links to the various aspects of the management, maintenance and operation of the road network, particularly the network under the responsibility of the ministère des Transports du Québec—namely, autoroutes, highways, regional roads and collector roads. It also contains links to the following subjects: cycling facilities; roadways; the environment; standardization; and road signs. It should be noted that, on the French-language version of the site, the Structures link gives access to a very interesting section on Québec’s covered bridges that provides a description of each bridge along with drawings and photos. The Transport Modes menu takes you to information on passenger transportation and the transportation of goods and merchandise (with the exception of trucking). The information is presented by mode of transportation, that is, rail and maritime transportation. The Passenger transportation section deals exclusively with land transport?taxi and paratransit services. Lastly, a section contains the English version of the transportation plans. The Safety menu contains links to all aspects of transportation safety, a major component of the department’s mission. Transportation safety concerns such matters as road safety, off-road vehicle safety, and the different means of raising public safety awareness (e.g. safety campaigns, such as the one on winter driving, and quizzes). The Ministry menu combines links to information on the administration and management of the department, including on: the Minister; agencies and government corporations; the budget; the declaration of services to the public; the administrative chart; and research and development projects. The Services menu groups the following links: Documentation and publications; Laws and regulations; To contact us; Assistance programs; and Services to the public. The Documentation and publications heading gives access to the department’s Publications bank, the on-line publications posted on this site, information on the laws and regulations administered by the Minister of Transport, various transportation statistics and the services provided by the Transports Québec documentation centre. The Regions menu presents each of the ministère des Transports' administrative regions and gives access to the Québec Governement's regional portals. The left menu, as displayed at the top of this page, appears on the home page and introductory pages of the site, and is comprised of the Search box and the Index section, followed by the link Need help? The Search box appears on all pages of the site and enables you to use the search engine of the government portal. The Direct access menu displays a list of shortcuts to all subjects dealt with on the site. It takes you directly to the page concerning the subject of your choice. The left menu on the other pages of the site, as shown here, contains the headings of the sections accessed by the cybernaut. The blue title enables you to access the introductory page of the section, when there is one, or to return to the general menu of the section when you are in a submenu. All section headings are displayed, while only the subjects of the selected heading (in bold) are displayed. The subject selected is highlighted in yellow.
