Regional Strategic Initiative (RSI) – Non-metropolitan
Laurentides and Lanaudière
This regional strategic initiative (RSI) applies to the non-metropolitan
areas of the Laurentides and Lanaudière regions, more specifically the
Argenteuil, Antoine-Labelle, Laurentides, Pays-d’en-Haut, D’Autray, Joliette,
Montcalm and Matawinie MRCs.
This initiative centres on two main components: tourism development and
support for the adjustment capacity of the rural region. It is based on a
partnership approach and reflects the economic development priorities identified
by stakeholders in the region.
This five-year initiative ends March 31, 2007.
Objectives
The RSI aims to achieve the following specific objectives:
- To improve the competitiveness of the region's tourism
industry
- To promote networking and concerted action among the
various stakeholders
- To help strengthen and enhance the region's existing
tourism products
- To improve the international marketing of tourism
products and services
- To support the establishment of a tourism
infrastructure of international calibre
- To support the development of strategic infrastructure
in the region
- To promote the diversification of the region's
economic structure
- To bring added value to processed products
- To support the commercialization of niche products
- To bring the rural region into the new economy
Eligible clients
- Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
- Non-profit organizations with an economic vocation
- SME groups
General eligibility criteria
- Be located within one of the targeted regions
- Be incorporated under federal or Quebec law
- Contribute to the objectives of the RSI
- Demonstrate the economic viability and
cost-effectiveness of the project
- Create jobs, particularly for youth, and generate
economic spinoffs for the region
- Comply with the principles of sustainable development
Forms of assistance
Contributions awarded to eligible projects are generally repayable.
Contributions awarded to non-profit organizations (NPOs) not engaged in
commercial activities are generally non-repayable. The funding structure of the
submitted project must indicate all financial contributions from other sources.

Enterprise Program is intended to further some
