Regional Strategic Initiative - Québec–Chaudière-Appalaches
The purpose of this initiative is to support regional economic
diversification. A Technoregion Without Borders is the theme of this
initiative, which has four components:
- Building the technoregion
- Ensuring the region’s international success
- Supporting the ability of the region to adjust
- Contributing to the development of the region’s tourism industry
Launched in 1999, this initiative will end on March 31st, 2007.
Objectives for the Québec Region
- To develop areas of excellence, mainly in information technology, optics,
geomatics and biotechnology
- To ensure the region’s international reach through positioning centres of
excellence abroad
- To develop the tourism industry by promoting major tourism events and
regional attractions
- To increase the ability of the region to adjust by implementing measures
tailored to the economic situation of declining areas in the region. This

have a growth-generating effect on the community
Objectives for the Chaudière-Appalaches Region
- To increase enterprise competitiveness
- To develop the agri-food industry
- To develop a reception and support infrastructure for the technological
development of enterprises
- To increase the ability of the region to adjust by implementing measures
tailored to the economic situation of declining areas in the region. This

- To develop tourism in declining areas in order to support projects that

Eligible clients
- Private research centres
- Clusters of manufacturing enterprises and industry associations
- Sectoral and SME development organizations, especially those in the new
economy
- Economy-based non-profit organizations
Types of assistance
Financial assistance for eligible projects will be in the form of
contributions. Contributions for non-profit organizations (NPOs) that do not
carry out commercial activities are usually non-repayable. The project funding
structure submitted should indicate financial contributions from other sources.
