Aerodrome Safety Inspector

Group & Level: TI-06 (TI = Technical Inspector)

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must fully demonstrate in their application that they meet all of the minimum qualifications.

Education:

  • Completion of secondary school

Experience

  • Five years recent experience as an Airport Manager OR
  • Three years recent experience as a fire officer at a designated airport OR
  • Five years airport experience as a supervisor of Airfield Maintenance

Depending on the job, you may also be required to possess one or more of the following experience:

  • Drafting regulations and standards
  • Project management
  • Monitoring or inspecting of airport operations and/or safety programs such as emergency response programs
  • Planning and development of airport programs and safety plans such as emergency planning response
  • Working in operations at a Canadian airport
  • Writing reports or correspondence
  • Responding to public interest and/or complaints on contentious airport-related issues

Preference will be given to Canadian citizens. Job Functions:

Aerodrome Safety Inspectors develop rules, standards and procedures for all aspects of airside safety, including aerodrome physical and operational requirements, land use and zoning, and evaluate the impact of noise on residential communities and wildlife. Based on factors such as traffic volume and traffic patterns, specialists evaluate requirements for maintenance, lighting, markings, emergency response plans and aircraft fire fighting services.

Aerodrome Safety Inspectors at Transport Canada work within the Civil Aviation Directorate of the Safety and Security Group. The Civil Aviation headquarters directorate determines program contents, policy and standards, while the regions deliver the program. Within the Civil Aviation Directorate, the Aerodrome Safety Branch is responsible for inspecting and certifying airports and aerodromes in Canada, from large metropolitan airports to single strip community airfields.
