Emergency Infection Control Kit
Starting in mid-June, 2006, the MOHLTC distributed more than 15,000 Emergency Infection Control Kits to licensed community physicians, midwives, and Community Health Centres (CHCs), including Aboriginal Health Access Centres (AHACs). This kit is intended to be used only in large-scale infectious disease emergencies such as an influenza pandemic. Do not open the kit upon receipt. It provides enough infection control supplies to be used by health care providers to protect themselves, their staff, and their patients from infection for the first seven to 10 days of an outbreak of a droplet-spread illness. The contents of the kit and all communications materials accompanying the kit are posted on this site, including a Question and Answer page. Materials in French are available as well. These kits provide the first line of defense only. The ministry is looking at broader stockpiling options for pandemic supplies that can be accessed by health care providers and facilities when their supplies are exhausted and supply chains are severed. A distribution list for these kits has been developed by the Ministry based on the criteria outlined above. No ordering process is necessary. If you are a licensed physician practicing outside of a hospital setting, a licensed or aboriginal midwife, a CHC or AHAC, and have not received your kit by July 14 (Update - see below), please contact the Ministry at emergencyICkits@moh.gov.on.ca. These kits are not presently being provided to other settings. Update as of July 14 : We have been informed by the distributor that as of July 14 there are a number of kits still en route. 80% of deliveries should be completed by July 19, with the additional 20% following by the end of the month. We encourage you to reserve your enquiries regarding delivery status until this point; however, should you have concerns, all enquiries will be pursued. Thank you for your patience.
