River Watch 2006 / Water level advisory (06/10/25)

NB 1311

Oct. 25, 2006

FREDERICTON (CNB) - The following water level advisory is issued by River Watch 2006 and the Department of Public Safety's New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization on Wednesday, October 25.

Throughout the St. John River basin, in response to the heavy rain that fell over the weekend (Friday & Saturday), river systems have been slowly decreasing in the north, while in the south, they are levelling off. Water levels at Fredericton peaked yesterday (Tuesday) and have begun to slowly decrease. Below Fredericton, water levels are levelling off and will then begin to slowly decrease over the next 24 to 48 hours, as this runoff continues to move downstream.

With these elevated water levels, people living or working along the lower St. John River and in low-lying areas should be on the alert and take steps to protect their property near the shoreline.

This advisory will continue to be of concern to boaters who have boats or docks still in the water and to farmers who have livestock or farm equipment on islands or in low lying areas adjacent to the St. John River or its tributaries.

Additional information may be found on the River Watch 2006 website at http://www.gnb.ca, keyword: River Watch.

A variety of self-help advice is also available on the NB-EMO Public Alerts site.

This is the final advisory related to this event; no additional bulletins will be issued.
