$7.3 million for Francophone school capital projects
Edmonton... Francophone students in the communities of Edmonton, Calgary, Wainwright, Peace River, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge and Cochrane will benefit from the Government of Alberta's additional investment of $7.3 million in Francophone infrastructure projects.
"The allocation of these dollars will help address some of the most pressing infrastructure needs identified by the Francophone school authorities, especially in light of ever-increasing Francophone student enrollments across the province," said Education Minister Gene Zwozdesky. "This investment, along with yesterday's announcement of $34 million for 130 new modular classrooms, completes the allocation of the $303.3 million for school capital projects I announced in August."

This funding announcement demonstrates the Government of Alberta's continued commitment toward Francophone authorities under Section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Last year, as part of his announcement of $207 million for school infrastructure projects, Minister Zwozdesky announced $5.5 million for Francophone infrastructure projects.

Government's ongoing commitment to Francophone education
Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal (IMR) funding increases to Francophone authorities:
Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal funding can be used for priority health and safety projects such as water and sewer lines, immediate maintenance needs such as roofs, window replacement and weeping tiles, and general upgrading, including flooring, ceiling and locker installation and replacement.
