Alberta promotes clean energy technologies at United Nations Climate Change Conference

Edmonton... LeRoy Johnson, MLA for Wetaskiwin-Camrose and Chair of the Alberta Research Council, will advocate for clean energy technologies on behalf of Alberta Environment Minister Guy Boutilier at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Nairobi, Kenya.

From November 6-17, Johnson will attend the 12th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 12) as a member of the Canadian delegation. Delegates will discuss and negotiate the post-2012 climate change policy framework.

"Alberta continues to be a leader in the development of clean energy strategies, and I look forward to more advice from Mr. Johnson about taking action on climate change through technology," said Alberta Environment Minister Guy Boutilier.

During the conference, Johnson will attend sessions about technology such as CO2 capture as a solution to climate change. He will also take part in senior-level roundtable discussions on international environmental technology co-operation and partnerships.

The cost of Johnson's 12-day trip to Nairobi is approximately $8,000.
