The Government of Canada (GoC) and the Canada Firearms Centre are committed to respecting the personal privacy of individuals who visit our web sites. This page summarizes the privacy policy and practices of the Canada Firearms Centre web site.

  • The Canada Firearms Centre does not automatically gather any personal information from you, such as your name, phone number, e-mail or street address during your visit to its web site. This information is only obtained if you supply it voluntarily, usually through contacting us via e-mail, or registering in a secure portion of the site.
  • All personal information you do provide is protected under the federal Privacy Act. This means that, at the point of collection, you will be informed that your personal information is being collected, the purpose for which it is being collected and that you have a right of access to the information.
  • Visitor information is not disclosed to anyone except Canada Firearms Centre personnel who need the information to respond to a request. The information you give us will be shared with another government department ONLY if your inquiry relates to that department. We do not use the information to create individual profiles, nor do we disclose the information to anyone outside those who need to provide you with a response.
  • The Canada Firearms Centre employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage. This software receives and records the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer that has contacted our web site, the date and time of the visit and the pages visited. We make no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting our site unless an attempt to damage the site has been detected.
  • The Canada Firearms Centre occasionally uses "cookies" to track how our visitors use this site or to determine sites previously visited. The cookies we use do not allow us to identify individuals. They are compiled into statistical information on traffic patterns and are used to assess site efficiency. Your system should notify you before any cookies are used so that you may refuse them, and the refusal of cookies will not affect the site performance or restrict your ability to access information from this site. (A "cookie" is a file that may be placed on your hard drive without your knowledge by a web site to allow it to monitor your use of the site.) By keeping this data, the Centre’s web site administrators can fine-tune the site based on user-activity trends.

Official Languages Act

The Canada Firearms Centre web site is bound by the Official Languages Act and relevant Treasury Board policies and all  information is available in both French and English. However, users should be aware that some information on external sites to which we link is available only in the language in which it was provided.

Universal Accessibility

The current web site has been modified to facilitate accessibility and to ensure that everyone, not only those with the latest Internet resources, will benefit from its features. While this site is designed to accommodate all types of Internet software and browsers, including earlier versions, some viewing problems can occur when using older software. We are continually striving to correct such problems. Please contact us if you are experiencing technical difficulties.
