Development Cooperation

Canada is a longstanding partner in development with Southeast Asia. To date, Canadian official development assistance (ODA) to ASEAN member countries totals $2.58 billion.

Canada development cooperation in the region, through the work of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), supports ASEAN goals outlined in the Hanoi Plan of Action (HPA) and the Initiative for ASEAN integration (IAI). These include initiatives to counter HIV/AIDS, support for economic integration and private sector development, and capacity-building to address global and regional environmental concerns.
