CANADIAN CENTRE FOR FOREIGN POLICY DEVELOPMENT:

As well, the Canadian Centre for Foreign Policy Development has periodically assembled NGOs, experts, academics, union activists, business people, parliamentarians and the media from across the country over the last two years to contribute to the discussion on the development of Canada's hemispheric foreign policy. The CCFPD has organized nine roundtables:

  • Helping to Shape a Canadian Discussion/Policy Development on the Americas (Calgary, March 17, 1999) broadcast on the Internet in real time and archived. (organized with Design E Lab, the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology at the University of Toronto, and the Calgary Centre for Performing Arts)
  • Democratization in the Americas (Halifax, July 9, 1999)
  • Initiatives for Democracy Education in the Americas: Education and the Free Trade Area of the Americas, IDEA (Vancouver, July 13, 1999)
  • Americas: Priorities, Plans and Activities (Ottawa, August 30, 1999)
  • Governance, Civil Society and the Americas (Victoria, January 28, 2000)
  • Threats to Democracy in the Americas, FOCAL, University of British Columbia (Vancouver, March 3-4, 2000)
  • Canada, Indigenous Peoples and the Hemisphere (Winnipeg, 23 mars 2000)
  • Towards Windsor (Ottawa, April 26, 2000)
  • Organization of American States and Small Arms Roundtable (Ottawa, April 28, 2000)

The CCFPD also provided funding for two articles: James Rochlin, Canada and Hemispheric Narcotrafficking (Fall 1999); Joël Monfils, Martin Roy, Gordon Mace and Jean-Philippe Thérien, Le Canada et la ZLÉA (Fall 1999).
