Hurricane Season - Prepare before you travel South

Each year the Canadian government assists hundreds of Canadians caught in natural disasters. With hurricane season now upon us in the Caribbean, there are some simple steps you can take to ensure you are prepared before you leave Canada.

  • Be sure to have contact information for the Canadian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate in the country you are visiting.
  • Register online before you go. This service is provided in the event there is a need to contact Canadians to offer urgent advice during a natural disaster or to inform them of a family emergency at home.
  • Consult the Country Travel Report prepared by Consular Affairs prior to departure.
  • For more information about preparing to travel overseas, consult the Consular Affairs website.
  • After hours, you may place a collect call to Foreign Affairs Canada's Operations Centre in Ottawa at (613) 996-8885 should you require assistance.
