MANLEY ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT TO
ASIA PACIFIC FOUNDATION OF CANADA
John Manley, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced the appointment of David Mulroney to the Board of Directors
of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, effective immediately.
The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, created in 1984 by an act of Parliament, is a private non-profit organization funded
by the federal and provincial governments, with additional financial support from the private sector. The Foundation's
mission is to help Canadians better understand, and be more successful in, the Asia-Pacific region.
The Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and its subsidiaries, the GLOBE Foundation and the Canadian Education Centre
Network, operate a number of programs to further Canada's economic interests in the region. The Foundation also houses
the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum Study Centre, which promotes collaborative research and
disseminates information and analysis on APEC and on priority issues for Canada's involvement in this forum.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
David Mulroney was born in Halifax in 1954. He graduated with a B.A. in English from the University of Toronto, where
he was Gold Medallist in English in 1978. He joined the Foreign Service in 1981. As Consul and Trade Commissioner at
the Canadian Consulate General in Shanghai from 1986 to1988, Mr. Mulroney was part of the team that re-established
Canada's official presence in the commercial heart of East China. Mr. Mulroney was Deputy Director of the East Asia
Trade section of the Department of External Affairs from 1988 to 1990. From 1990 to1992, he served as Executive
Assistant to Canada's Deputy Minister for International Trade. Mr. Mulroney was Commercial Counsellor in the Canadian
High Commission in Kuala Lumpur from 1992 to 1995. From 1995 to 1998, he served as Executive Director of the Canada
China Business Council. From 1998 to 2001, he was Executive Director of the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei. Mr.
Mulroney is currently Assistant Deputy Minister, Asia-Pacific, in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International
Trade, where he is responsible for managing Canada's relations with the countries of the region.
