KILGOUR TO ATTEND MEETING OF AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK
David Kilgour, Secretary of State (Latin America and Africa), will be in Valencia, Spain from May 28 to 30 to lead the
Canadian delegation to the 36th Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank. The Annual Meeting, scheduled to
officially open on May 29, will be attended by over 2000 participants, including official delegations from member states as
well as observers from other international financial institutions, international banks, the private sector and the media.
The African Development Bank is a regional multilateral development bank engaged in promoting the economic
development and social progress of its regional member countries in Africa. The Bank, established in 1964, started
functioning in 1966 with its headquarters in Abidjan, Cote d'lvoire. Its shareholders are the 53 countries in Africa as well as
24 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia. This is the third time since 1996 that the Canadian delegation to the Annual
Meeting has been led by a minister.
