KILGOUR - VISIT TO HONG KONG AND KOREA

Media representatives are advised that David Kilgour, Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific), will visit Hong Kong and Korea
from November 7 to 12, 2002.
In Hong Kong, Mr. Kilgour and over 50 Canadian business representatives from Alberta, B.C., Ontario and Quebec will
participate in a conference sponsored by the Hong Kong and Economic Trade Office (HKETO). The conference is designed
to explore the challenges of the Chinese market and to provide networking opportunities for participants. The Secretary of
State will deliver a keynote address at the opening ceremony of this event. He will also discuss human rights and good
governance with government officials and representatives of NGOs.
In Seoul, Mr. Kilgour will participate in the Second Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies, where
participants from approximately 100 countries will focus on the consolidation of democratic institutions; regional
cooperation to promote democracy; media and democracy; and the coordination of democratic assistance. The Secretary of
State will also meet with Korean Foreign Minister Choi Sung-Hong and participate in a number of bilateral meetings with
other conference participants.
