PETTIGREW - VISIT TO SPAIN

Media representatives are advised that International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew is visiting Madrid, Spain, from January
14 to 18, 2002. During his visit, Mr. Pettigrew will hold a series of meetings focussed on developing trade and investment
between Spain and Canada.
On January 14, Mr. Pettigrew met with Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, President of the Community of Madrid, who hosted a
business luncheon attended by several Madrid economic leaders and representatives of locally established Canadian
companies.
On January 15, Mr. Pettigrew will meet with Anna M. Birulés, Minister of Science and Technology, and then with Benigno
Blanco Rodríguez, Secretary of State for Infrastructure. The Minister will later meet with Antonio Garrigues Walker,
President of the Spain-United States Business Council, during a business luncheon attended by several business executives
and investors.
On January 16, Mr. Pettigrew will meet with executives from the GAMESA energy and aeronautics company, and will then
attend a business luncheon hosted by Carlos Pérez de Bricio, Vice-President of the Confederation of Employers and
Industries of Spain.
On January 17, Mr. Pettigrew will meet with Ramon de Miguel y Egea, Secretary of State for European Affairs. Later, the
Minister will give a post-Doha address at a reception for business people hosted by Rafael Del Pino Moreno, President of
the Rafael Del Pino Foundation.
