Canada-Italy Youth Mobility Memorandum of Understanding
On October 18, 2006, Vittorio Craxi, Italy's Undersecretary for United Nations and North American Affairs and Peter Harder, Canada's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed a Youth Mobility Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Canada and Italy. This MoU establishes a Working Holiday Program that will allow young Canadians and Italians between the ages of 18 and 35 to travel and work on an occasional basis in each other's countries for up to six months. Participants will benefit not only from being able to work overseas, but will also gain a deeper understanding of their host country.
International experience facilitates the development of new professional skills, including fluency in multiple languages, which are more and more essential in the job market.
Each year, there are over 54,000 Canadian and international participants in Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada's International Youth Programs.
Although this MoU will come into effect upon signature, details regarding application procedures have not yet been finalized.
