MINISTER PETTIGREW CONDEMNS TERRORIST ATTACKS IN EGYPT
Foreign Affairs Minister Pettigrew today issued the following statement concerning the
series of terrorist attacks that took place yesterday in Egypt:
“I wish to extend our profound sympathies to the families of all those killed in these
terrorist attacks, and our hope for a prompt recovery for those injured.
“While the details of these bombings are still coming in, it seems clear that the targets
were the many Israeli tourists who were on vacation at these Egyptian resorts. It is all
the more offensive that Israelis were targeted during the religious holiday of Sukkoth.
We deplore the widespread loss of life of all victims. Canada condemns this assault
and calls for the swift apprehension of those responsible.
“This was also an attack on one of the most visible signs of hope in the region: the
cooperation between Israelis and Egyptians made possible by the Camp David peace
accord. We are confident that this cooperation will survive these cowardly and
murderous bombings.”
