MINISTER PETTIGREW MEETS WITH
ANDORRAN FOREIGN MINISTER
Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew will meet today with the Foreign Minister of the
Principality of Andorra, Juli Minoves-Triquell, on the occasion of the Andorran Minister’s
first official visit to Canada.
“Canada and Andorra are pleased to take this opportunity to exchange views on United
Nations reform, human rights and related human security issues, peacebuilding and
cultural diversity,” said Minister Pettigrew. “Andorra and Canada frequently cooperate in
the context of the UN and, as an active supporter of Canada’s human rights and human
security agenda, Minister Minoves-Triquell campaigned for the creation of the
International Criminal Court.”
Foreign Minister Minoves-Triquell will also meet with Jacques Saada, Minister of the
Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec and Minister
responsible for La Francophonie. Andorra’s imminent entry into La Francophonie, the
roles of the two countries in this organization and the upcoming La Francophonie
Summit in Burkina Faso are expected to figure prominently in the discussions.
“I am pleased to learn that the Principality will soon join the extended family of
La Francophonie. Its expertise in the areas of rights, freedoms and education, among
other things, will be valuable to La Francophonie,” said Mr. Saada, who assured the
Principality of Canada’s support to facilitate its integration into the organization.
