MINISTER PETERSON AND PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY EYKING
TO HOST EMERGING MARKETS ROUNDTABLES
International Trade Minister Jim Peterson and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister
of International Trade (Emerging Markets) Mark Eyking will host three roundtables on
emerging markets in Ottawa from November 29 to December 1. These consultations,
which will involve participants from across Canada from the academic field, civil society
and the business community, will contribute to the development of an emerging
markets strategy. Minister Peterson and Parliamentary Secretary Eyking will seek the
participants’ views, experience and expertise to identify how the Government of Canada
can best support Canadian businesses in order to succeed in emerging markets.
These three roundtables are part of ongoing initiatives on emerging markets, which
began early in 2004 with initial visits to prospective partner countries. Informal
discussions have also been held with various stakeholder groups and the provinces and
territories.
International Trade Canada officials will be available to provide a debriefing on these
discussions to interested media. The time and place of the debriefing will follow later
this week.
