PRINCESS TAKAMADO OF JAPAN TO VISIT CANADA
Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado of Japan will visit Canada from
June 7 to 21, 2004.
Princess Takamado will visit Canada on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of
diplomatic relations between Canada and Japan. The visit by Her Imperial Highness
reflects the friendly relationship that exists between our two countries.
The Princess will travel across the country during the course of her two-week visit. In
Vancouver on June 7, she will dedicate the Japanese Fishermen's Memorial. In
Edmonton on June 10, she will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Law from the
University of Alberta and open the Centre for Japanese Studies.
In Toronto on June 13, the Princess will open the Japan Information Centre at a concert
commemorating the 75th anniversary of Canada-Japan relations. In Kingston on
June 15, she will dedicate the His Imperial Highness Prince Takamado Memorial
Collection, a donation of the Japan Foundation, at Queen's University. Later that day in
Ottawa, the Princess will launch the "Memories of Canada: Prince Takamado's Visual
Legacy" exhibit.
Finally, in Charlottetown on June 19, the Princess will view the opening-night
performance of Anne of Green Gables -- The Musical at the Confederation Centre of
the Arts. The following day, she will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Law from the
University of Prince Edward Island prior to departing the country.
